My Work
During my internship at Dusty Robotics, I'm focused on enhancing the user experience for our construction robots' tablet interface. I aim to make the technology accessible for operators of diverse backgrounds. My responsibilities cover three key projects: improving on-canvas object information, file import onboarding and optimizing the stationing experience.

The on-canvas object information has been implemented and tested by operators in the field, which has received positive feedback and reduced the likelihood of app crashes due to user error.

Context

Dusty FieldPrinter automates construction layout.

The FieldPrinter by Dusty Robotics is an automation tool that prints digital models directly onto construction site floors with 1/16" accuracy. Operators control the entire process through a tablet interface.

Problem

Interface design for intuitive robot operation is challenging.

Provide users control over model printing

The interface faces complexity due to multi-layered building models and numerous objects. The interface should be easy to be understood to build operator confidence in printing.

Provide guidance over hardware setup

The robotic system requires hardware setup for accurate operation. The interface aims to guide users through the setup process, outlining the correct sequence and conditions.

My role is to design features for the tablet interface that help users anticipate the robot's actions and use it intuitively.

Helped operators see the particular layer of selected objects and detailed object information like line length.
